Future oriented housing and settlement concepts in UAD in respect to society,
environment and tradition
Under the topic urban development in an international context the manifold geographic and cultural resources and their chances to develop were to be analyzed. Concepts for new residences for the working class in the United Arab Emirates were developed. Efficiency, sustainability and human living conditions were our main targets. Another important aim was the sensitive dealing with foreign cultures and their urban and architectural needs.
This goal of this research project was designing 150 innovative residential units, which should be affordable and sustainable with in h a maximum flexibility in different sizes and respond to the basic human living conditions within this specific context.
Interviews and discussions to identify the needs of the guest workers were conducted by the students on site. The interim results of the work were presented to the United Arab Emirates at various universities and discussed with professors and students. Project during the teaching post at the Munich University of Applied Sciences, Germany (D. Karcher).
